What you’ll be doing...
The Principal Engineer will function as an operation lead providing subject matter expertise and operational support for the team on the IMS Core Subscriber Data Management (SDM) Frontend elements including 4G Core: Home Subscriber Server (HSS), Authentication Authorization and Accounting (AAA), and NetAct
Element Management Systems as well as 5G Core: UDM and AUSF.
The candidate will have hands-on experience at an operational level demonstrating routine care and feeding (Linux/OpenStack/Webscale/Application Deployment/Programming) as well as debugging/troubleshooting techniques for the application and system.
Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting of virtualized 4G and 5G core network elements.
Monitoring performance and optimization.
Using your experience with 5G network slicing and network function virtualization (NFV).
Using your knowledge of 5G security protocols and best practices.
Understanding of 3GPP standards and specifications related to 5G core.
Overseeing the reporting of service KPI and analytics for the new and existing services within the operation team.
What we’re looking for...
The candidate will have a deep understanding of 4G and 5G call flow as well as the proficiency to analyze the PCAP (packet capture) on a daily basis. Also, you will attend performance meetings with vendor and maintenance engineering to discuss the issues identified during your work. And in this role, you will build detailed project plans and lead weekly status calls with teams across several organizations, as well as provide mentoring to the other team members on networking, application design, and engineering.
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
Hands-on experience with at least one major 5G core vendor solution (e.g. Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, Oracle).
Applied leadership skills in previous work history as well as advanced working knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, Netmask, DIAMETER, SIP, LDAP and load balancing.
Advanced knowledge of protocol analysis tools such as IrisView, NetScout, wireshark, tcpdump, ping, netstat.
Proficient skills with large database administration, scripting, and automation tasks (Ksh, Python, yaml, ansible, JSON).
Deep understanding of 5G core network architecture and functions (5GC, NG-RAN, Service-Based Architecture) including network functions like UDM and AUSF.
Protocols and interfaces: HTTP/2, Diameter. Service based architecture principal and implementation.
Night work (Maintenance Window) is required.
Participate in on-call rotation that provides 24x7 critical support for the team applications.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Bachelors/Masters in technology related field.
Certification in Linux, OpenStack, Webscale, Database Admin, Cloud Security or equivalent.
In-depth knowledge of design principals of OpenStack and Webscale architecture and how networking operates in an OpenStack cloud.
Containerization technologies like Kubernetes, Docker.
Cloud-native principles and microservices architecture.
