Job Description

Responsible for strategic risk oversight through managing, monitoring, and coordinating risk management programs and projects for strategic risk. Ensures that risk associated with the Bank’s strategic priorities and initiatives are identified and managed across the enterprise. Establish oversight protocols of first line risk activities, develop reporting and metric monitoring, and create processes to ensure strategic risk is proactively managed within the Bank’s established strategic risk appetite.

Requires expert knowledge of risks and controls, strong ability to work across business areas to influence change, and strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze operational and financial impact of strategic risk and mitigation approaches while providing effective challenge. Experience with corporate strategic planning and related processes, preferably within financial services, combined with a solid understanding of capital management and related risks are critical for this position.

Establish and enhance risk governance practices based on internal and external factors, such as industry and regulatory dynamics, changes to internal objectives and alignment with the Bank’s Strategic Risk Management Framework. Lead advancement of strategic risk functions including quantitative measures, project plan development, and timely execution of risk programs.

Key responsibilities:
• Support the operation of the framework for strategic risk oversight and challenge including risk inventory, issue management, and strategic initiative risk assessment.

• Develop and manage quantitative strategic risk metrics to identify, monitor and escalate risks across stakeholder and business areas.

• Facilitate connection of strategic risk and capital risk to monitor and manage the impact capital has on the ability to execute strategy and how the Bank’s strategic initiatives can impact capital levels

• Provide input into management and maintenance of the strategic risk framework, including the Risk Appetite Statement, relevant policies and procedures, and framework documents.
• Responsible for content and timely completion of QML and Risk Assessment Profile. Responsibility includes driving advancement of these risk reports and ensure alignment with the Strategic Risk Framework and Strategic Risk Taxonomy.
• Oversee the creation and effectiveness of business line policies, controls and issues associated with applicable strategic risks and open issues where risk processes/controls are lacking.
• Advise on issue remediation to ensure strategic risks are sufficiently mitigated.
• Create and oversee processes and procedures that manage strategic risk, including internal controls and control documentation such as the RCSA.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
- Typically more than 10 years of applicable experience

Preferred Skills/Experience
- Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends that impact their assigned line of business
- Advanced understanding of the business line’s operations, products/services, systems, and associated risks/controls
- Thorough knowledge of Risk/Compliance/Audit competencies
- Strong leadership and management skills of processes, projects and people
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills
- Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications
- Applicable professional certifications

- In-depth knowledge of enterprise risk management approaches and objectives (e.g. risk management framework, risk appetite, risk/material risk identification, risk measurement, policy development, data governance, committee governance).
- Robust understanding of U.S. Bank business areas, risk management programs and organizational structure or strong prior experience in creating and leading strategic risk for a large enterprise

- Expert knowledge in quantitative metrics along with strong data analytic skills
- Strong leadership and management skills of processes, projects and people
- Substantial examples of driving effective change through influence
- Strong problem-solving and people-influencing skills
- Current or prior leadership roles in one or more risk disciplines that closely align with strategic risk
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to credibly challenge senior and executive level managers

**The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.**

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $133,365.00 - $156,900.00 - $172,590.00
