What to Expect

The Project Engineer, New Product Introduction is responsible for supporting the development of new processes and carrying out each trial exactly to the established product and process specification. This role will be supporting our cell manufacturing plant Nevada Gigafactory. This includes managing the program from early prototype builds through to the launch of the production line. The primary role of the Project Engineer will be to test and validate systems and parts involved in product development and manufacturing to ensure products are of the highest quality. To support this, the Project Engineer will also establish validation standards, develop testing protocols, prepare equipment, document test results and maintain records. Project Engineer also leads change management process for launching any product, process and supply chain changes in existing lines with minimal disruptions. The Project Engineer will identify, report, and adjust equipment or processes that require improvement. The Project Engineer will collaborate with safety, design, product excellence, supply chain, manufacturing, and service departments.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead manufacturing line trials for new products and process; Conduct trial preparation and reporting: Ensure part availability, line readiness, and pre-requisite data obtained and consolidated. Document observations, analysis, and results, make recommendations as needed and drive solutions. Record all issues found during trials and help drive to closure; Manage trial recovery: Ensure manufacturing lines are validated and/or restored to prior condition post-trial(s). Evaluate the success of each trial (yield, downtime, cost, safety, etc.)
  • Develop robust and clear data collection, visualization, and analysis. Enable data driven decisions through predictive insights into tool and process performance, including integration of factory data systems and use of software such as MySQL, Python, Minitab, Power Bi, and Tableau
  • Become expert level trainer on all manufacturing processes in assigned areas; Serve as subject matter expert (SME) on trials to ensure proper validation procedures are followed
  • Driving accountability regarding project & program milestones, key initiatives, and project success criteria
  • Coordinating with variety of cross-functional stakeholders to track execution of projects: production operations, quality, engineering functions, finance & accounting, material & production planning, design teams, etc.
  • Development and deployment of a world class operations playbook across energy product manufacturing sites, including change management, business reviews, etc.
  • Manage quality assurance and procedures by testing and validating systems and parts; Assist in establishing and implementing new validation standards, and procedures
  • Lead, guide, and mentor junior team members
What You’ll Bring
  • 3+ years’ experience in engineering, manufacturing, and Project Management fields
  • Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience with commissioning equipment, fixtures, improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement, and process flow
  • Good first principle thinking and understanding of product design, 3D CAD, GD&T, and bill of material
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly. Able to utilize structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or Eight Disciplines (8D). Able to resolve high level performance issues into addressable actions
  • Experience with Project Management tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Microsoft Project is preferred, but not required
  • Experience of programming and data visualization tools such as MySQL, Python, Minitab, Power Bi, and Tableau is preferred
  • Exceptional capacity for managing simultaneous activities, competing priorities, and challenges
  • Experience supporting, maintaining, and modifying pilot line equipment to support development efforts for multiple programs
  • Strong ability to work and communicate effectively with team and peers within a manufacturing and engineering organization. This includes excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
