What to Expect

The Plastics Process Engineer will be responsible for the development of plastics manufacturing processes, equipment/tooling alternatives, sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities necessary for the production of parts. Implement, develop, and optimize production methodologies in the manufacturing operations of Tesla. Optimize product flow though the factory though process optimization that may include tool /fixture selection, line layouts, ergonomic study, material presentation, and other relevant factors. Interface with design, test, and quality engineering to solve problems, improve manufacturability, and implement continual improvement. Sustain products with cost reduction and yield improvements. Work with quality to compile and evaluate data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop injection molding process parameters for new tooling and optimizing process for Existing tooling with scientific Injection molding methods
  • Analyze and optimize production processes to ensure safety while maximizing yield, capacity, and capability in cost effective means while driving to achieve world-class quality levels
  • Monitor and audit manufacturing processes to ensure product specifications and standards are achieved
  • Create and maintain Manufacturing Instructions, routings, and associated processes
  • Work with Tooling team to optimize tools to yield better quality and optimizing cycle times
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of FMEAs and Control Plans
  • Monitor and reduce process variation using Statistical Process Control
  • Lead and assist production in all quality and process related topics and issues
  • Efficient material flow, design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high quality parts
  • Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in in Mechanical, Manufacturing/Industrial, or Plastics Engineering; or equivalent experience
  • Minimally 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Must possess traditional process engineering skills (process development/improvement, troubleshooting, data analysis, constraint analysis, flow optimization, root cause analysis, etc.)
  • Must possess scientific Injection Molding experience
  • Understanding of molding Tool design and functions
  • Understanding of 2K shot molding and experience developing tooling and processes
  • Capable of identifying critical process parameters and applying statistics to process measurement and control
  • Need experience with dispensing system particularly for systems processing reactive materials such as polyurethane or isocyanate resin systems
  • Hands-on experience with dosing machines, chemical systems, and related maintenance tasks as well as injection molding machines
