The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer - Paint position, reporting to the Paint Manufacturing Engineering Manager, is located at our Fremont Factory location. The primary responsibility of this role is to justify and manage CapEx project workflows to produce an objective and measurable output. This includes equipment & process design and requires strong engineering skills and leadership attributes. The candidate will be expected to be a self-starter, manage multiple projects at a time, and lead discussions with external vendors and various cross-functional teams (Production, Maintenance, Industrial Engineering, Construction, Quality, etc.).
- Manage CapEx project lifecycle: Justification, specification / option analysis, approval, spending & budget, factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, validation, and transfer of ownership
- Manage external vendor scoping, communications, and schedules
- Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for paint processes including conveyance, robotics, assembly build cells, and in-station automation. Simulate process changes and new /existing equipment to optimize equipment implementation and benefit
- Creation, implementation, and optimization of robotic & automation safety standards, including periodic auditing and qualification inspections. Ensure compliance to applicable standards
- Define paint process optimization opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
- Documentation of automated equipment, and associated procedures. Including maintenance tasks / processes, spare parts, changepoint documentation, operator instructions, bulletins
- Study technologies to expert-level of understanding, utilizing internal & external technical resources to fully understand, teach and lead new / newly implemented technologies
- Support / assist Maintenance in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures. Provide technical training to maintenance, production, and other internal resource groups
- Working in a hands-on capacity in a production environment to fully understand scope, impact, and associated challenges. Provide technical support to production, maintenance, quality, and other groups as required
- Support cross functional teams during production shutdowns and ramp
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of proven experience in paint automation engineering, preferably in the automotive industry
- Proven automation technology competence
- Certification & demonstrated understanding of machine safeguarding & equipment safety compliance
- Robotic mechanical and electrical trouble shooting skills
- Proven interpersonal skills and ability to objectively resolve conflict within a large group
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Able to work flexible hours and schedules as required
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Catia, SolidWorks)

$104,000 - $174,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
