What to Expect

Tesla’s Manufacturing Engineering team is at the forefront of developing first-of-a-kind processes which allow us to produce amazing vehicles at best-in-class quality and rate in a safe and ergonomic environment. The Coatings team is seeking a Sr Manufacturing Engineer for Application Booth Engineering and Design. You will design and develop technically complex booth designs for coating applications, which includes process development, specification, validation, establishing and optimization of critical process parameters, design for manufacturing, equipment specification and design, as well as installation and commissioning.

This Engineer will work closely with internal cross-functional teams, external vendor & technology partners on process development from concept to production. This role requires a thorough understanding of Manufacturing Engineering fundamentals and substantial skills with 2D or 3D CAD software. It is critical for a successful applicant to solve problems using first principles analysis and exercise aggressive design optimization.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead application booth engineering from concept to production, optimizing booth and air filtration systems for streamlined manufacturing
  • Research and develop advanced air handling, filtration, and overspray capture/reclaim systems
  • Analyze air handling systems using psychometric charts, pressure drop calculations, and fan curves
  • Use CFD software to simulate airflow and optimize booth design for maximum efficiency
  • Design application booth systems compliant with safety, hazard classifications, fire, and mechanical codes
  • Specify and select filtration and cyclone systems to maintain air quality and control particulate matter
  • Oversee large-scale projects, including timing plans, cost analysis, risk mitigation, executive reporting, and installation of manufacturing lines
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years related experience in a technology-based industry, where automated methods are utilized in the finishing/coating of consumer products
  • Experience working with or developing functional/aesthetic coating processes, including automotive paint & powder coating
  • Experience in developing, executing, and interpreting results of Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Proficient in hazard area classification, fire/mechanical codes, air quality control systems (filtration, cyclone systems), and pressure drop calculations
  • Skilled in designing ductwork, mechanical equipment, fixtures, tooling, and interpreting mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, with expertise in automation and safety standards and PFMEA development
  • Experienced with 2D/3D CAD software (Catia, SolidWorks, Inventor, ProE, AutoCAD) and CFD modeling software (Ansys, Autodesk CFD)
  • Familiar with MS Office Suite, Confluence, Jira, Siemens/Allen Bradley PLC languages, HMI, and SCADA systems
  • Ability to travel 25 ~ 50%
