Industrial Engineers at Tesla are responsible for optimizing manufacturing systems by means of value stream mapping, data driven analysis and cross-functional collaboration. Beyond this, Industrial Engineers are responsible for measuring, improving and managing resource allocations to meet business objectives efficiently as possible and lead company efforts to move towards lean production systems. Gigafactory Texas has an opportunity for a highly motivated Industrial Engineer. The ideal candidate will have technical competency in work measurement, linear programming, discrete event simulation, data science and other operation research methods. Furthermore, this position will interact across all Gigafactory Texas areas, the successful candidate will be expert in discrete event simulation, optimization, data engineering, labor & space planning, material flow, lean production philosophy, problem solving methodologies and project management.
- Develop discrete event simulation models of direct and indirect manufacturing process and procedures such as production lines, pedestrian & traffic flows, warehouse management, buffers definition and material flow resources
- Incorporate statistical variation, uncertainty and impacts of unplanned events to overall production output
- Work with manufacturing engineering and production teams to identify production constraints and evaluate potential solutions to lift them. Lead, deploy and execute optimal solution implementation
- Optimize process design, layout and resources allocation by analyzing throughput capabilities, bottlenecks, buffer sizing and material routing
- Support new and sustaining production line requirements, including layout management, space allocation and material flow optimization
- Develop and improve visualization framework to capture high level factory operation and detailed subsystem operation to generate concise, clear, and easily way to track and communicate analysis and KPIs status for projects and stakeholders
- Provide high-quality & decision-making framework using quantifiable tradeoffs, value-stream analysis and resources sensitivity through high fidelity mathematical modeling and simulation
- 3+ years' industrial engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive industry preferred) and in inferential & descriptive statistics, data engineering or catalyst and simulation modeling of complex manufacturing environments
- 2+ years’ experience designing, analyzing and optimizing production lines and material flow strategies
- Extensive analytical skills for performing detailed data analysis and summarizing results for executives
- Strong ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels
- Leadership driving projects through problem resolution methodologies with diverse teams in high-volume manufacturing environments
- Approach problems and unknowns from a lean principles point of view and back it up math to solve it
- Expert in discrete event simulation software: FlexSim
- Expert in 2D/3D layout in AutoCAD, Revit, Solidworks
- Expert in work measurement tools with MTM, MODAPTS or MOST
- Expert and strong in office 365, data visualization and analytics ability in programming Python, R, SQL, Excel (VBA), Power BI, C++, Tableau
