What to Expect

This position will work as a member of Tesla’s Instrumentation, Calibration, and Imaging Group to support product validation of all Tesla products. Primarily supporting sustaining vehicle portfolio and new vehicles in development. Additionally, within this role, the person will continue providing support to the rest of the Tesla products as dictated by the priorities. This role is responsible for performing and overseeing all instrumentation and data acquisition of components, sub-systems, and full vehicles in a laboratory and proving ground environments. The job function may also require the engineer to support test execution, data health by working closely with the Vehicle Test team. The successful candidate for this position will have a broad background in automotive testing.

What You’ll Do
  • Support instrumentation and data collection requests made by various test and design teams
  • Provide expertise in finalizing sensor locations and types to achieve the end goals
  • Provide expertise on data acquisition system selection and settings based on application
  • Installation of sensors and data acquisition hardware on the vehicle as identified by test plans
  • Installation, calibration, and set up of strain gages in various bridge configurations is a plus
  • Create daily work plans to achieve test plan goals on schedule, create clear documentation of various instrumentation and calibration processes
  • Design and create custom brackets and fixtures
  • Support testing activities and/or vehicle preparation and tear-down as required by workflow priority
  • Perform onsite support and testing while monitoring and validating data
  • Basic data analysis and data cleanup by working closely with multiple engineering teams
What You’ll Bring
  • Strong electro-mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, or equivalent experience
  • Experience instrumenting vehicles with Accelerometers, Loadcells, Pressure sensors, Thermocouples, Wheel Force Transducers, Strain gages, etc.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems like DTS, SOMAT, NI, DEWESOFT, etc.
  • Ability to operate and use diagnostic scan tools, scopes, meters, and other test equipment
  • Data processing and analysis using nCode GlyphWorks or similar
  • Experience with CAD for fixture design
  • Strong organization skills with meticulous attention to detail as well as excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines
  • Flexibility to travel domestically (Up to 25%)
