Staff Systems Integration & Software Engineer, Cell Manufacturing
Tesla
The Engineer is expected to perform systems integration and software development through all product build phases beginning with PCBA component and system design validation, factory acceptance testing, and production sustaining. The Engineer will be a key partner between manufacturing and electrical design engineering during concept stage, implementation, and design validation. We're looking for an experienced Engineer to join our team and take responsibility for the architecture of one of the many cell programs we're currently designing (some announced, some not). You will show outstanding organizational and communication skills and an eagerness to push the industry forward.
The team is open to Palo Alto, CA and Lathrop, CA as alternate locations.
- Outline controller requirements based on system performance specifications
- Evaluate new manufacturing processes for controllability and fit to system needs
- Work cross organizationally (Cell Process, Manufacturing, EE, Power Electronics, etc.) to make design decisions on controller architecture, representing the firmware org
- Translate algorithms into software implementation, design the software architecture and firmware implementation
- Own firmware through life cycle from prototype to high-volume production, high-quality C code in a real-time embedded environment
- Test, validate, and troubleshoot controller implementation. Collaborate with validation teams to add coverage to regression tests
- Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to analyze a system’s robustness
- Prototype embedded software to evaluate concepts on various manufacturing systems
- Develop scripts to analyze fleet performance of existing systems to make precise software/hardware improvements on existing and future processes (Python)
- Solve hard, undefined problems with limited direction. Hands-on with hardware bring-up and prototyping
- Experience leading a technical effort from concept to production. Experience writing clear requirements, system diagrams
- Experience developing real-time safety-critical software (C/C++)
- Mentorship experience working with junior developers
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience in related fields with practical experience developing, implementing, and testing power electronics controls or battery electronics
- Experience validating complex systems (Note: this is not a validation role but understanding this part of the process is important to the success of the job)
- Exceptional understanding of electrical engineering concepts, strong hands-on testing and troubleshooting skills
- Understanding of safety critical development frameworks (DO-178, ISO 26262, IEC 62304, etc.)
- Understanding of communication technologies (Ethernet, CAN, MQTT, Serial, etc.) and embedded technologies (ADC, PWM, SPI, UART, I2C, PMIC, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills, can clearly communicate technical findings to various audiences, be available to other team members when questions arise. Excellent attention to detail
