What to Expect

As Tesla continues to vertically integrate our operations, Tesla Cell Infrastructure group is looking for a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to work on a critical challenge facing the world’s energy transition to sustainable energy. Sustaining, Operating, and Optimizing a first-of-a-kind Battery Facility.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will work closely with the Design team, Construction & Commissioning team supporting projects from concept through design, installation, integration, ramp up, and long-term operations, sustainability & operations.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform energy audits, provide energy usage calculations circuit analysis for critical load throughout the plant and circuit protection for voltage sag of critical loads. This includes validation, optimization, and efficiency analysis for cost savings and reduction of energy throughout the Gigafactory
  • Maintain a living risk analysis of the factory electrical distribution system while driving high and medium risks to closure. Identifying common failure modes
  • Operate electrical equipment and program/adjust medium voltage relays
  • Prepare engineering specifications for bid invitation, perform bid evaluation, and conform bid evaluations for purchase
  • This position will be field based, and this person should be comfortable working in an operating manufacturing facility with ongoing construction activity
  • Coordinate downtime activities and needs between maintenance, construction, and production
  • Provide base cost estimating services within the electrical scope and work with trades to drive value for Tesla
  • Visit construction sites to determine compliance with design intent, reporting discrepancies, errors and omissions and utilizes this input to update standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Establish standards and specifications for installation, modification, quality control, testing, operation, inspection, and maintenance of Emergency Power Supply System (EPSS) and high voltage electrical systems according to commissioning standards, NFPA requirements, EPSS engineering principles, and safety regulations
  • Ability to drive electrical distribution improvement projects using design change requests, power monitoring data, and advanced detection methods
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Direct construction or engineering experience building high-tech infrastructure and operational facilities (semiconductor, solar, battery, vehicle, etc. preferred.)
  • Medium voltage equipment including operating and maintaining the equipment, troubleshooting and programming, and adjusting medium voltage relay, variable frequency drives, soft starters, and motors
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA codes, hazard classifications, and HAZMAT safety protocols
  • Technical understanding and experience with NETA (National Electrical Testing Standards) and NFPA 70B (Electrical Equipment Maintenance Recommendations)
  • High level understanding of industrial facility utility systems including IT/network, pure water/wastewater, wet mechanical, dry mechanical, controls/BMS, and gas and chemical
  • Proven track record of managing budgets and evaluating emergency service and construction related quotes and contracts
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and interface at an executive level
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment
