What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a dynamic environmental specialist to join the Environmental, Health and Safety Team (EHS). The role will support environmental compliance at manufacturing sites in Lathrop, CA. Reporting to the Sr. Environmental Manager for Bay Area Manufacturing, this role will be responsible for performing complex technical work in a wide range of environmental programs, including air quality compliance and permitting, chemical inventory and waste reporting, and storm water and wastewater compliance. They will serve as the internal subject matter expert and advise and influence internal business partners to achieve environmental performance goals. Be part of the Tesla EHS Team that builds capacity, provides solutions, and drives continuous improvement throughout the Global Tesla Organization.

What You’ll Do
  • Identify, assess, and control environmental risks and assure that Tesla operates in compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Manage air emissions permitting for new and modified emission sources and air permit compliance including recordkeeping, air emission source testing, and periodic air emissions and compliance reporting
  • Characterize and classify wastes and maintain processes to assure safe, cost-effective, and compliant waste management
  • Prepare hazardous materials and waste reports including Hazardous Materials Business Plans, biennial hazardous waste reports, and Toxic Chemical Release Inventory reports
  • Manage compliance with storm water and waste water discharge permits and regulations
  • Lead and manage the Lathrop casting operation’s ISO 14001 environmental management system and certification and support obtaining Aluminum Stewardship Initiative Certification
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree e in Environmental, Chemical, Civil Engineering, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience supporting environmental risk management and regulatory compliance in manufacturing environment
  • Experience managing regulatory/agency inspections and communications
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced environment, where demands and priorities change rapidly
  • Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, engineers, legal counsel, technical specialists, and management, cross functionally, in a multi-disciplinary, global environment.
