What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start around January 2025 and continue through the entire Spring term (i.e. through May 2025) or into Summer 2025 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

What You’ll Do

Qualified applicants may be reviewed by one or more of the following teams:

Assembly Engineering

  • Intern will contribute to the process improvement of new assembly lines for our advanced cell manufacturing equipment for the cutting-edge Tesla 4680 Battery Cells. They will work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire lifecycle of the product and processes. They will work closely with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing), Quality and production teams to bring the new product from initial design, through prototype development and finally into full production.

Assembly Machine Vision Development

  • Intern will work on developing and deploying vision systems used on the Tesla Cell Manufacturing production lines. This intern will also support with analyzing performance of vision systems, implement new features, troubleshoot issues of existing vision systems.

Cell Manufacturing

  • Intern will innovate, engineer, manufacture and install new processes and high-volume automation equipment. They will work closely with Tesla’s internal Product Design, Operations, Facilities, Production and Quality Engineering teams and coordinate cross-functional design activities with equipment suppliers to develop scalable innovations in the areas of automated laser welding, vision inspection, conveyance systems and dispense equipment. This individual will also assume ownership of the design and technical transfer of equipment and designs to Tesla Operations, qualifying them for use with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output.

Cell Engineering

  • Interns work directly with full time engineers to problem solve, design, prototype, test and launch new parts and processes to improve our cells. Our projects include automation system installations, cell defect root cause analysis, cycle time analysis and optimization, Design of Experiments, and project management.
What You’ll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience 3D CAD software such as NX, Fusion360, SolidWorks or CATIA
  • Experience with project management and revision control tools (Jira, Github)
  • Experience working with industrial machine vision cameras
