What to Expect

As an Autonomy Camera Software Engineer, your technical skills will be applied to a variety of components within the imaging pipeline and software stack to optimize system performance and fundamentally improve image quality for computer vision. By partnering closely with hardware, computer vision, UI/UX, and system software engineers, you will be part of a cross functional, ongoing initiative of delivering the best possible view of the world for consumption by neural networks and human-facing displays. Your code will connect with cameras, image signal processors, neural networks, codecs, telemetry, and other components executing on the Tesla AI computer. Additionally, the camera software team builds tools for benchmarking, characterizing, and optimizing camera 3A and ISP configurations, and is responsible for testing and evaluation of software frameworks to ensure the system and functional stability of our stack.

What You’ll Do
  • Write, debug and maintain robust C/C++ software for the Autopilot and our Humanoid robot software stack; you will work on code related to our high-framerate Camera & Vision stack, write GPU kernels, implement and profile system frameworks, or improve/extend codecs for video collection
  • Architect, tune, and evaluate camera control and image processing algorithms
  • Implement algorithms that track camera and optical performance over time, connecting with service and user interfaces
  • Iterate on new features through simulation, testing, and targeted fleet data analysis
  • Define requirements and coordinate with relevant vehicle subsystems, manufacturing, service, and other teams to optimize optical performance and reliability
What You’ll Bring
  • Practical experience programming in C/C++ software, including modern C/C++ (C++14/17/20), multithreading, and Python. Cuda/OpenCL experience a plus
  • Knowledge of digital camera systems and related concepts, including color filters, exposure control, timing, drivers, and in-sensor HDR techniques. Experience with imager bring-up
  • Experience or familiarity with ISP pipelines, drivers, and associated tunings
  • Experience or familiarity with Computer Vision, Machine Learning & related software concepts
  • Experience with performant embedded software design, object-oriented C++
  • Proficient developing software on a Linux host, for embedded Linux targets a plus
