What you'll get to do
- Lead and take responsibility for the design, development, testing, potential technical debt & delivery of multiple major, customer-facing features.
- Consider non-functional Requirements (Performance, Scalability, Reliability, High Availability etc) in system design.
- Regularly lead design, code, and test plan reviews
- Collaborate with product owners and designers to iterate on the design and implementation of our systems.
- Work with PM to influence product feature direction including but not limited to prototyping innovative ideas.
- Partner with product owners and engineering leadership to identify priorities for development and product backlog refinement
- Ensure consistent code quality by coordinating activities of other engineers assigned to the same features or subsystems.
- Mentor junior engineers throughout the development process.
- Identify opportunities for engineering productivity improvements or directions, and evangelize these successfully
- Participate in on-call rotations, post-incident reviews, and other operational duties as needed to ensure stable service delivery
- Help the team estimate software deliverables across multiple sprints.
Must-have Qualifications
- BS EE or CS degree, or equivalent training or work experience with 8+ years related experience (or Masters and 6 + years related experience or PhD and 3+ years experience)
- Experience building and designing complex large-scale backend systems.
- Experience with DevOps practices and comfortability operating your own systems.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Leadership and mentoring skills and the ability to work with engineers and non-engineers of various skill levels.
- Proficiency in any modern languages like Go(Preferred), Python, Java or similar
- Experience developing cloud native applications in Kubernetes, or Openshift, Server clusters in distributed environments in AWS, GCP clouds or on-prem clusters.
- Experience working with cloud native technologies/frameworks like gRPC, REST, Websockets
- Familiarity with Observability concepts and ecosystems OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana etc.
- Experience with relational and non relational databases.

Base Pay Range
SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area
Base Pay Range: $174,800.00 - 240,350.00 per year
California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts
Base Pay Range: $157,320.00 - 216,315.00 per year
All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.
Base Pay Range: $139,840.00 - 192,280.00 per year
Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
