Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight, the key technology for the future of drones and aerial transportation. The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best-in-class hardware and software product development, and operational excellence to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users - from first responders to insurance claims adjusters, utilities, and more!

About the Role

Insightfully designed manufacturing processes are critical in bringing our tightly integrated, sophisticated electromechanical systems to major markets. As a primary designer and executioner, you’ll work with our product development, reliability, manufacturing, and quality teams to design the world’s most advanced autonomous drones so that you can produce them efficiently and at scale.

This role is key for bridging manufacturing know-how, processes and lines, from Hayward to India. To achieve the X10’s superlative manufacturing quality in India, the Skydio Manufacturing team has leveraged legacy solutions to develop an optimized and scalable line layout; allowing for flexible production targets and improved operational efficiencies. Two initial builds are planned to bring up, qualify and exercise the new line. This role is key to plan for the dry-run in Hayward for Phase 1 and then two builds early next year for Phase 2. You will be working closely with MFG test SW org during bring up and validation and then start knowledge transfer with the new CM and closely working with their Manufacturing and Production teams to hit yield targets, align on line maintenance, WI deployments and control and continuous operator trainings and monitor NCA and high retest items. In Summary, this role will be one of the key faces of Skydio Manufacturing in the India Plant.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Collaborate closely with the product development team to influence designs for robust manufacturing and assembly. Develop an in-depth understanding of part function and critical to quality criteria.
  • Architect, develop, and implement processes and metrics to assemble, test, and validate those products.
  • Craft work instructions that can be used to both train new operators and guide experienced ones.
  • Layout work stations to optimize the speed and consistency of producing sub-assemblies and integrating them into a working product.
  • Design fixtures to help operators join, fasten, and adhere components repeatably and accurately.
  • Develop in-house industrial automation of gluing, curing, ultrasonic welding, robot calibration, and test processes.
  • Respond quickly to ongoing/sustaining manufacturing issues that arise in the day to day process of ramping products.

What makes you a good fit:

  • Experience designing for assembly, with an eye for how to adjust interfaces to improve the manufacturability of the system.
  • Collaborative approach to challenging problems and changes, looking for solution paths that can meet the goals of different teams.
  • Drive to balance requirements with the product design team to bring quality products to market on time.
  • Interpersonal and leadership skills as well as the ability to be a positive team member to both colleagues and external partners.
  • Hands-on and excited to build things. Interest in both architecting an assembly station and debugging a failed test.
  • Ability to design and build automated assembly and test hardware, integrating either internal circuit boards or off-the-shelf modules.
  • Strong grasp of fundamental engineering concepts
  • Self starter with a desire to push Skydio products to the next level while communicating cross functionally.
  • Expert at creating complicated electromechanical assemblies in one or more CAD softwares, and prototyping using 3D printers, laser cutters, drill presses, and other tools.
  • Practical manufacturing experience and/or knowledge in the following manufacturing processes: metal casting, sheet forming and stamping, injection molding, CNC machining, extrusion, coating technologies, and welding.
  • Background in industrial safety process, PLC, and electrical wiring.
  • In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and inspection, and an ability to review and generate 2D drawings.
  • Experience applying quality tools such as Failure Modes Effect Analysis (FMEA), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and 8D Problem-Solving, Root Cause Analysis, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and/or CAPA.
  • Expected international travel requirements up to 25%

Compensation Range: The annual base salary range for this position is $144,500 - $195,250*. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. In addition to base salary, Skydio full-time employees are eligible to enroll in our benefit plans and take advantage of a variety of incentives and stipends.
