About Smart Infrastructure – Electrification and Automation:
The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets and through all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing into our Future Grids portfolio and applications to create the power distribution grid of the future. Our comprehensive portfolio meets the growing technical requirements of todays and tomorrow’s power grid!
We are looking for a Project Engineer - Subject Matter Expert - MV AIS. This position will be based at Wendell, NC.
The EA Business Unit of Siemens is looking for highly qualified and energetic Subject Matter Experts (2 openings) for its Medium Voltage (4.16-38 kV) Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) Project Engineering department.
You’ll make an impact by:
- In-Office Presence –
- Expected hybrid role to support team/ internal departments, est 2-3 days/week in office
- Front End Support –
- Proactive approach on RFQ request from AE/Sales/BDM/Customers.
- Ensure System Integration of Product is clear prior to design start
- Key Technical Point of Contact for new customers
- Project Support-
- Focus on specific verticals within the organization (Utility, I&C, DC&S)
- Key Point of Contact within department for IEEE/ANSI/UL/NEMA Standards and their compliance during design
- Lead standardization design efforts
- Involvement with design efforts (Spec Reviews, Approvals, Factory Releases) to support best practices/process improvements
- Serve as a Quality Reviewer prior to Customer Approval
- Factory/Site Support –
- Work with factory on long lead items and come with the list of parts, considering two vendors options for all long lead items when possible.
- Review OCNs report to come with Preventative Action plans
- Review NCC cases and come with PA plans
- Additional Support –
- Continual support for PE team regarding R&D and DTO departments
- Technical Guru of Medium-Voltage gear
- Develop Individual Project Engineer skillset regarding Project Product & above Key Responsibilities
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and relevant regulations.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of proven experience working with the design/configuration electrical power distribution products and systems.
- Professional Engineering License
- Possess a high level of knowledge and experience in your specific area of expertise.
- Clearly and effectively communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Identify and analyze non-compliance issues, and develop effective solutions.
- Obtain relevant certifications/licenses to note expertise
- Strong understanding of the Siemens industry or specific technologies.
- Ability to analyze customer’s technical specifications and apply appropriate product solutions to meet the customers’ expectations in cost-effective and timely manner.
- Strong working knowledge of standard protection and control technologies used in medium voltage power distribution products with proven ability to share this knowledge with others.
- Ability to train team members regarding Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL and NEMA standards for MV Switchgear.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Siemens MV Air Insulated Switchgear.

- The pay range for this position is $89,670 - $153,720 and the annual incentive target is 10% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
