Position Overview:
We are excited to add a Planning Manager to our growing team! This role involves leading a team of MRP controllers in operational purchasing to support the manufacturing of Light Rail Vehicles, Locomotives, and Passenger Coaches. The ideal candidate will have a strong planning background and excellent analytical skills. We are looking for a strong leader with the drive to succeed in a complex, multi-project, and engineer-to-manufacture environment.
What your day may look like:
- Lead a team of 8 or more MRP controllers, responsible for placing purchase orders per business requirements at Siemens Mobility. Key activities include:
- Analyzing demand in ERP.
- Creating Purchase Requisitions.
- Creating Purchase Orders.
- Drive the team to plan, lot size, release, and prioritize planned purchase orders to meet required material delivery dates.
- Perform excess inventory analysis and coordinate with the warehouse for the availability of excess inventory. Minimize excess stock and ensure the business is left with minimal liability.
- Monitor the Bill of Materials (BOM), engineering drawings, and liaise with production planning and the engineering team to resolve discrepancies.
- Monitor changes in supply or demand (in quantity or timing) for material and correct imbalances.
- Negotiate price and material lead time with suppliers for quick buys (immediate needs) and follow up with suppliers to expedite parts.
- Coordinate with Material Program Managers and drive MRP controllers for the on-time release of purchase orders.
- Manage and track inventory transfers within different projects and other Siemens Mobility units.
- Establish, manage, and meet clear department goals, objectives, and KPIs. Set priorities and ensure employee performance meets department goals. Perform periodic employee performance reviews.
- Develop and implement effective training plans and materials for new hires. Improve internal process compliance and control by analyzing available data.
- Develop and maintain standard reports to provide an accurate representation of material status (purchase orders and requisitions) and other related information required for effective business management. Provide regular status reports to all stakeholders.
- Interface with Strategic Purchasing, Enterprise Scheduling, Manufacturing Department Managers, and Project Management teams to provide analysis and input regarding project material requirements and status, including problem mitigation strategies.
- Support projects and management with requested ad-hoc tasks and perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.
What will make you successful in this role:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Supply Chain Management.
- 4-7 years of management experience in tactical purchasing/planning. This is not a new graduate position.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Office (including macros, VLOOKUP, and pivot tables), and Dashboard Tableau.
- Strong understanding of supply chain concepts and continuous improvement.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
- Commitment to meeting schedules despite obstacles.
- Strong leadership, attention to detail, and high-quality work standards.
- Ability to make sound decisions amid ambiguity and complexity.
- Experience with SAP MRP.

This position in located in Sacramento, CA. The salary range for this position is $98,300- $125,000. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
Specific to this position: Planning Manager will be required to be onsite for the first 3 months and will then need to be in office for a minimum of 4 days per week. This is not a remote position.
