Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objects we see in our daily lives are being conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.
We are a leading global software company dedicated to the world of computer aided design, 3D modeling and simulation— helping innovative global manufacturers design better products, faster! With the resources of a large company, and the energy of a software start-up, we have fun together while creating a world class software portfolio. Our culture encourages creativity, welcomes fresh thinking, and focuses on growth, so our people, our business, and our customers can achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
Interested in using your advanced engineering, mathematics and software skills to help build products for the #1 supplier of industrial software in the world?
In this position, you will design, implement, and maintain high-performance algorithms used in Structural Engineering analyses! You'll work on the Simcenter Nastran application, primarily in the Structural Dynamics and Vibro-acoustics domain. You'll join the Dynamics Group, and work with the Software Engineering Manager for the Structural Dynamics and Numerical Methods Team.
In this role, you will develop in-depth knowledge of structural dynamics algorithms in Nastran, in particular, direct/modal frequency/transient response of finite element analyses of structures. We work in an Agile team to help refine and estimate development items supporting customer requirements. We design, implement, and test new features, and extensions to existing functionality. Lastly, you will set an example by using the most current development approach that is practical for implementing new features.
Your primary responsibilities will be to:
- Work effectively within Scrum Team, by focusing on determining the best algorithmic approach and delivering testable implementations as frequently as possible. You will also be expected to support the team by focusing equally on team and individual goals and pursuing opportunities to collaborate.
- Extend current finite element analyses in Nastran to deliver faster and more accurate answers to complex engineering problems through algorithmic improvements.
- Learn to use Nastran-specific utilities for optimally managing system resources, e.g., memory and I/O.
- Work with team to write effective tests for new and existing code, supporting our zero-regression policy.
Job tasks:
- Design and implement real and complex eigenvalue, frequency response, and transient response algorithms for both direct and modal methods in structural dynamics.
- Build, compile, and debug sophisticated code, both in-house and externally developed.
- Support the goals of the team, via active participation in planning, daily scrum, sprint review, and retrospectives.
- Thoroughly understand core algorithms for Structural Mechanics.
- Fix customer issues in a timely manner, as prioritized in collaboration with the product owner.
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
- Masters in Computational Engineering with a focus in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering.
- Fortran and C++ proficiency.
- Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis for Engineering problems.
- Ability to work in collaborative atmosphere within and across teams.
- Familiarity with Software Development best practices.
- Excellent English language communication.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
- Ph.D. in Computational Engineering with a focus in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering
- Background in Structural Dynamics simulation
- Background in Vibro-Acoustics is a definite plus
- Some travel (up to 5% time) may be required occasionally, for more focused interactions with team members and/or participation in Technical Conferences.
