Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Mechatronics Test and Validation Engineer to lead the development, management, and execution of validation plans for vehicle hardware mechatronic subsystems and bench-level (fixture) testing. In this role, you will validate mechatronic subsystems, including sensors, actuators, and controllers, ensuring they meet rigorous performance, reliability, and safety standards. This position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, creating and executing detailed test plans, analyzing test data, and driving improvements in testing methodologies.
Responsibilities
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
• Support DFMEA activities and develop comprehensive validation plans to ensure coverage of potential failure modes and compliance with mechanical, electrical, and environmental requirements.
• Work with designers to define fixture requirements, build test fixtures, and integrate with wiring harnesses, ECUs and instrumentation for validation tests.
• Collaborate with power function system engineers, controls engineers, DREs, and external vendors to manage validation tests, ensuring alignment with program goals, budgets, and timelines.
• Perform validation testing at subsystem and fixture levels, collect and analyze test data, lead design reviews and drive root cause analysis to implement corrective actions.
• Review vendor test procedures for compliance with Rivian standards, generate detailed validation reports, and document findings per company requirements.
• Manage validation schedules, ensuring test assets are available, identifying critical path items, and providing technical guidance to lab engineer and technicians.
• Continuously improve test methodologies and validation processes by incorporating lessons learned and staying updated on industry trends.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering, with expertise in automotive testing and validation of mechatronic systems.
• Practical experience with DC motors, motor controllers, and laboratory tools, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and signal generators.
• Proficiency in working with sensors, data acquisition systems (DAQs), diagnostic tools for CAN and LIN (e.g., CANalyzer, CANape), and test management tools like Jira, Jama, and Confluence.
• Advanced skills in data analysis using MATLAB, Python, or Diadem, with a proven ability to extract and apply insights from test data.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and project management skills, with experience diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical and electrical system issues.
