Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.
The Azure PostgreSQL team is seeking a Principal Group Software Engineering Manager to join the PostgreSQL OSS Engine team. We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager with expertise in database internals and distributed database systems, who has a strong passion for PostgreSQL and Open Source.
Our team includes Opensource PostgreSQL committers and contributors. You will collaborate with a geographically diverse team, working on advanced database features across the PostgreSQL ecosystem, from low-level I/O and storage subsystems to user-facing query improvements. You will engage closely with the global PostgreSQL community, interacting with developers and users from various regions and organizations.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of people management experience with maintaining and building a high-performance team.
- 5+ years of experience running large-scale services and building databases/storage systems.
Other Requirements
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
- OR related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,
- OR Python
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years people management experience.
- Industry experience building OSS, PostgreSQL, Linux systems
- Ability to drive the overall technical roadmap
Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.

Responsibilities
As a Principal Group Software Engineering Manager, you will mentor engineers, strategize on future roadmap items, provide architectural insights, support your team in designing and developing enhancements, and review code and design within the open-source PostgreSQL.
- Lead and manage a group of software engineers individual contributors and their managers - promoting a culture of ownership and accountability.
- Guide the group in the design, development, testing, and deployment of high-quality software.
