Overview

Azure Hyperscale Networking team is responsible for the entire Microsoft network. Our mission is to build and operate the world's most reliable network. The services in the SWAN team are responsible for mission critical functionality to engineer traffic on our wide area network in near real-time.


As a Senior Software Engineer on our team, you will play a critical role in developing innovative features in our software and services. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Azure cloud services and Networking.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Work with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements for a set of features. Begin to leverage a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes. Incorporate appropriate continuous feedback loops measuring customer value, usage patterns, and other actionable metrics of value.
  • Contribute to processes for the architecture of a product/solution feature and helps to create proposals for architecture by testing design hypotheses and helping to refine code plans, with technical leadership from others.
  • Create and implement code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Write and learn to create code that is extensible and maintainable. Consider diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability with few defects, and understands when the code is ready to be shared and delivered. Apply coding patterns and best practices to write code.
  • Support efforts to apply debugging tools and examines logs, telemetry, and other methods to verify assumptions proactively before issues occur and reactively as issues occur for product features. Conduct retrospective debugging of solutions to identify root causes of problems.
  • Maintain operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis. Identify solutions and mitigations to simple issues and complex issues when applicable impacting performance or functionality of Live Site services and escalates as necessary.
