As a Datacenter Metro Network Program Manager, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Qualification or equivalent AND 3+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology or delivering server and network deployment projects in large-scale environments

    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Previous experience with MS Cloud Services and Platforms (e.g., Windows Azure, Office 365, Excel Pivot tables, etc.)
  • Understanding of Layers 1-3 Networking Support; firsthand experience with cables and switches
  • Technical College degree in Computer Science, Math, Telecommunications, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering. or related field
  • Applicable certifications: ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA, Microsoft, Network Certifications, PMP, ITIL, CDCP
  • Project Management Experience: Proven track record of managing large-scale network deployment projects in data centers.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep hands-on working knowledge of network infrastructure, equipment, and large-scale cabling deployments.
  • Deployment Scale Experience: Extensive experience with high-volume network cabling projects, managing deployments involving hundreds of thousands of network links.
  • Leadership & Management Skills: Leadership capabilities to direct and manage teams of contracted professionals. Prior people management experience is a plus.
  • Risk Management: Ability to mitigate risks in mission-critical deployments where mistakes can lead to major outages.

Data Center Operations Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,800 - $195,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $135,200 - $222,000 per year.

Responsibilities

Service Delivery:

  • Creating and managing end-to-end project plans and ensuring on time delivery.
  • Supporting deployment of on-site datacenter physical infrastructure for installing, replacing, and troubleshooting cables, optic, and hardware.
  • Infrastructure planning, placement, and mapping.
  • Lead and manage large-scale network deployment projects within data centers, ensuring high reliability and zero downtime.
  • Maintain accountability for network infrastructure deployments, where errors could impact an entire region and thousands of customers.
  • Provide hands-on oversight and guidance for network cabling deployments, ensuring quality and efficiency.
  • Interfacing with external groups for network focused deployment or break/fix work.
  • Troubleshooting, replacement, and decommissioning of network devices and components.
  • Plan, manage, and communicate end-to-end project plans with stakeholders and teams. This includes the program management of Datacenter Network and Operations Technicians in your metro for the refreshing of all network devices on an ongoing basis.
  • Oversee and direct all network deployment activities across a data center metro, ensuring adherence to best practices and minimizing operational risks.
  • Collaborate with Partners, Regional Networking PMs, and other stakeholders to ensure the efficient progression of all networking tasks and projects.
  • Perform day-to-day project check-in and update to manage project delivery and quality.
  • Identify potential risks in data center operations and develop mitigation strategies to ensure continuous service availability.
  • Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities and communicate to stakeholders and other teams to drive resolution.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Develop and manage budgets for data center projects, ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising quality or compliance.
  • Gather and provide feedback on lessons learned, best practices, and innovations on processes, procedures, and tools to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Be part of a mobilization team that supports deployments and break/fix activities at datacenter locations experiencing high work volumes.
  • Oversee and coordinate Outside Plant (OSP) network infrastructure projects, including trenching, conduit installation, and fiber optic deployment, ensuring seamless integration with data center operations and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

  • Suggests improvements in implementation based on depth of understanding.
  • Contributes constructively during team meetings and in cross-disciplinary collaborations within the service team.
  • Implement and enforce stringent safety protocols for all data center activities, ensuring the safety of personnel, the public, and existing infrastructure.
  • Engage with stakeholders to communicate project plans, address concerns, and minimize disruptions during data center construction and network expansion activities.

Ownership:

  • In alignment with management priorities, holds self-accountable for the end-to-end service quality, completeness, and resulting customer experience (including but not limited to availability, safety, security, customer service).
  • Supports escalation of issues to appropriate owner.
  • Mitigate risks in mission-critical deployments where mistakes can lead to major outages.
  • Ensure strict adherence to operational standards, minimizing the impact on services and customers.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data center projects, including design plans, permits, inspection reports, and as-built drawings, while providing regular updates to stakeholders.
