Overview

Reports to EVP, Global Brand Strategy & Innovation (Brand Strategy, Branding, Advertising, Media, Digital, Research & Insights)

The mission of the Brand Strategy and Innovation team is to advance Mastercard’s journey to become a top 5 global brand through industry leading strategic thinking and to fuel the business with, cutting edge marketing, capabilities and platforms that create growth and drive competitive advantage.

The Strategic Marketing and Innovation Planner role is to “inspire what’s next?” and set our course for future differentiation and growth. This includes inspiring Marketing innovation across Integrated Marketing and Communications, as well as a partnership with Product and Foundry to fuel co-creation and new offerings, such as new passion cards and features (e.g., True Name, Touch Card, etc).

This role also works across the Brand Strategy & Innovation team to deliver marketing strategy and plans that advance our vision and objectives across Integrated Marketing and Communications, and support goals that fuel the business. The role will lead integrated, cross-functional strategic marketing annual planning, and future-forward exploration both developing needs for short-term and critically long-range opportunities. This function plans, partners, and establishes programs to enable ideation and creation through providing “marketing futures” perspectives, industry-forward insights, and culture-forward, and purpose-led inspiration.

Leveraging external and internal data, foresights, insights, trends, specialist expertise across the Brand Strategy & Innovation team, the broader IMC team and external partners, this role will lead inspiration sessions, as well as our IMC Innovation Challenges, and identify emerging needs and opportunities for exploration to relevant teams across the organization that drive tangible outcomes.

Role

• Lead annual marketing planning for Brand Strategy & Innovation. Working with the Mastercard Strategy team and key IMC regional and global functional teams and product and services teams, lead the cross-functional plans to continue to advance our brand position and business objectives.
• Develop overarching strategies and plans related to critical segments across B2C and B2B. Identify and develop strategies to win with emerging segments or new segment opportunities.
• Drive Innovation Culture and Innovation plans across IMC, leading innovation challenges and inspiration sessions that lead to an ongoing focus on cutting-edge, purpose driven and experiential marketing opportunities.
• Beyond annual planning, provide a steady stream of strategic points of view around key topic areas that could drive future plans and initiatives to spark brand and business growth
• Provide strong storytelling around strategies and plans that can be used internally, with our Board and externally with customers.
• Keep close eye on competition and ensure strategies and plans to differentiate and advance our brand and business.
• Work closely with leads on Brand Strategy, Research and Insights, Digital Marketing and Media to Identify new spaces, organizations, capabilities, partnerships that could catapult our and business and build into plans with cross-functional partners.
• Partner with Brand Strategy team on Brand Architecture and positioning strategies and plans
• Synthesize data and information from many resources to identify opportunities and influence direction to drive future products, campaigns, experiences and innovations that move into plans for our team or others throughout the organization
• Champion an innovative and collaborative culture
• Develop points of view related to marketing on specific topics that cut across Brand Strategy and Innovation such as new technologies (e.g. Gen AI), new media (e.g. role of retail networks), rise of specific channels (e.g. social, audio, etc), new behaviors or culture – in partnership with relevant team leads
• Partner with Product/Foundry to bring new points of views and co-create new opportunities to stay ahead of trends and competition

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
