Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Battery Module

We’re looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer with structural, thermal, and/or electrical design experience to join our battery team. If you’re the kind of person who sees a problem, develops a solution, and engineers an improvement no one’s asked for yet, then we want to talk with you!
As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will help support state-of-the-art electric vehicle battery systems through design improvements & cost optimization initiatives, root cause corrective action, sustaining activities, as well as proposing new design concepts to evolve the design into its next generation. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of the battery module as a product
- Own and improve the components currently in production by analyzing designs and driving changes where needed to reduce costs and/or optimize performance
- Propose new module concepts that integrate new technologies
- Work closely with cell engineers, battery systems and modeling engineers, power electronics engineers, manufacturing, quality, and other cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, perform root cause analyses, research solutions, and resolve complex problems
- Integrate mechanical designs with high voltage electrical systems in a multidisciplinary environment
- Develop and maintain the Design for failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA) and Design Verification Plan (DVP)
- Interface with external OEMs as the design lead for the module
Qualifications:
- 4+ years experience as a major contributor in a fast-paced engineering environment
- A flair for creative design engineering and problem-solving
- Understanding of battery design fundamentals
- Strong 3D CAD skills, proficient with CATIA or similar software
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and Creepage & Clearance principles
- Hands-on practical experience with shop tools and prototyping
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, sheet metal stamping, die casting, etc
Preferred:
- Experience in automotive product validation (environmental testing, shock/drop, etc)
- Experience with EV battery systems
- Experience with automotive engineering
- Experience with electronic control systems
- Experience with Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA) and DFM
- Experience with Root Cause Analysis methods, such as 8D
Education:
- Bachelor of Science (Master of Science preferred), in the areas of Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Automotive, Computer Science, or other related fields
