We are hiring a full-time Finance Manager 1, Accounting within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) which is an important role for supporting the finance and accounting operations.

What you’ll do:

This is an exciting opportunity to have a high level of impact and work for an organization associated with 16 Nobel Prizes! You will report to the General Accounting Manager 2 and be responsible for managing daily operations and coordination of financial transactions within the General Accounting Department in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO).

You will provide guidance and manage the Laboratory’s General Accounting functions, including monthly/year-end financial transmissions to the Department of Energy (DOE), periodic internal and external financial reporting, and support/assistance to internal and external financial auditors. Manage the coordination of accounting functions including areas of banking/treasury operations, Construction Work in Progress (CWIP)/property capitalizations, conferences/events, and Laboratory/DOE General Ledgers.

You will coordinate the activities of the General Accounting department with responsibility for results, including recording timely and accurate financial data (i.e., policy compliant, consistent with the DOE Financial Handbook, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulations) that is a critical mission to the DOE.

You will contribute to the development of new methods, using concepts in accordance with organizational objectives to solve problems in creative and effective ways, while frequently interacting and/or collaborating with a wide variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally to the Laboratory.

You will have direct management of exempt level accounting professionals at various skill levels.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in accounting and / or finance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in overseeing and providing guidance to staff performing financial functions including: preparation and posting of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statement analysis, financial report preparation, variance analysis and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Desired knowledge/experience:

  • CPA, audit experience and / or government accounting is a plus, but not required.

Notes:

  • This is a full-time, M-F, exempt from overtime pay (monthly paid), career appointment.
  • Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, and certifications, and also aligned with the internal peer group. The budgeted annual salary range is $146,184 to $186,792.
  • This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
  • Must live within 150 miles of Berkeley, CA. This role is currently 100% work from home (telework), but may need to come onsite depending on business needs.
