Job Description

Primary Function of Position The Ion™ endoluminal system is Intuitive's new robotic platform for minimally invasive biopsy in the peripheral lung, with an initial goal of improving the early diagnosis of lung cancer. Ion’s planning software and navigation software use cutting-edge machine learning (ML) algorithms to analyze medical image data and provide a world-class image guidance solution. We are seeking a talented Sr Software Engineer, ML Platform to join our dynamic team.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure and tools necessary to support the entire machine learning lifecycle, from development to deployment. You will work closely with ML engineers and software developers to ensure that machine learning models are seamlessly integrated into our systems and deliver value at scale. The ideal candidate is a self-directed and fast-paced developer with excellent problem-solving skills and practical working knowledge of modern ML development techniques.

Essential Job Duties

• Develop infrastructure and tools for managing the lifecycle of ML models, and support deployment to multiple medical robot platforms.
• Implement methods for efficient data collection, labeling, versioning, storage, and preprocessing for machine learning applications.
• Build tools for ML model evaluation and end-to-end validation to help assess the impact of ML model changes on clinical data outcomes.
• Collaborate closely with ML scientists and engineers, embedded software engineers, and DevOps teams to understand their needs for successful deployment and monitoring of ML models.
• Partner with data engineering and IT teams to develop data pipelines and infrastructure that support managing the ML model lifecycle.
• Understand and apply evolving trends in AI, ML and Cloud technologies.
• Understand and apply evolving regulatory (e.g., FDA, data privacy) guidance on ML processes.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

• Proven experience in ML Ops or ML engineering roles.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C++.
• Experience with ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and libraries.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and containerization technologies.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Required Education and Training

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
