ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Instacart Business team, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our B2B ecommerce solutions, focusing on optimizing and expanding our ordering capabilities while building out an enterprise-grade platform. This position calls for a proactive and innovative thinker who can drive technology forward and help make Instacart the leading platform in the B2B ecommerce space for businesses. You will design and implement robust solutions to complex problems, demonstrating your technical expertise and leadership to push the boundaries of our current offerings. The Instacart Business team is a dynamic and rapidly growing group tasked with developing Instacart's presence in the B2B ecommerce domain. We are dedicated to building a suite of enterprise products tailored to meet business needs, such as bulk ordering, tax exemptions, receipt exports and team-wide reporting. ABOUT THE JOB

This role demands a visionary engineer with an entrepreneurial spirit to help us incubate and launch new products within the business marketplace segment. You will be essential in both developing new features and optimizing existing systems to enhance customer satisfaction and engagement. The position involves collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and operations, to ensure our solutions are aligned with business goals and user expectations. As a craft leader, you'll be responsible for contributing to the vision, strategy and development of our B2B solutions that are efficient, scalable, and meet diverse user needs. You will also be proactive in spearheading new initiatives, coding and documenting components, writing and reviewing system design documents and partnering with other teams and functions to gather and understand our customer's requirements. You will think and plan strategically for short and long term initiatives to continue shaping our platform and products.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent proven industry experience (4+ years)
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Expertise in backend languages, specifically Ruby or Python, with solid understanding of Rails or Pandas
  • You can design for scale with the entire system in mind
  • Solid communicator, comfortable seeking and receiving feedback
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills
  • Strong sense of ownership working with a large codebase and diverse suite of products
  • A collaborative mindset to be able to partner with engineers, designers and PM's from multiple teams to co-create impactful solutions while supporting system contributions
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to communicate and present ideas clearly and influence key stakeholders at the manager, director, and VP level

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior work experience in the B2B and/or e-commerce space.
  • Strong general programming and algorithm skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in the implementation, keen eye for edge cases and code reviews.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools like Datadog.
  • Experience proposing and leading projects that drive business impact.

Instacart provides highly market-competitive compensation and benefits in each location where our employees work. This role is remote and the base pay range for a successful candidate is dependent on their permanent work location. Please review our Flex First remote work policy here.
