Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, GO, and/or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript and/or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 5 years of of experience developing mobile applications or websites.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, and/or cross-business projects.
  • Experience in software development; in-depth experience developing numerous web-based applications.

About the job

In this role, you will lead the development and integration of our player module across all verticals on iOS and Android platforms. This role will evolve player architecture and APIs to enable innovative video experiences at YouTube.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the player module integration with a focus on scaling reusable components across watch experiences, anticipating feature innovation and building with flexibility in mind, and shoring up the player foundation. You will also own the strategy for defining mobile’s player public API, build a shareable components road-map, and manage partner relations.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop reusable player components optimized for watch experiences (e.g., watch reuse), ensuring seamless integration and performance across devices.
  • Build a flexible player architecture that can accommodate evolving needs.
  • Implement strategies and optimizations to deliver excellent playback experiences on mobile devices.
  • Define the mobile player's public API, including shareable components. Own the road-map for the player module, collaborating effectively with cross-functional partners to drive its evolution.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the team, driving architectural decisions and ensuring alignment with overall product strategy. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing within the team.
