As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will be a key member of GM Commercial Software’s data platform team, responsible for supporting core analytic products and services. This role will focus on developing transformations for the vehicle telemetry data that powers our automated fleet insights, visualizations, and emerging machine learning, optimization, and AI applications. You will work closely with data scientists and data engineers to refine business requirements and develop high quality enterprise data models adhering to best software engineering practices. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with enterprise data warehouse systems, modern ELT/ETL frameworks, and BI and orchestration tools. You should be comfortable working with cross-functional teams and have excellent communication skills.
What You'll Do
Extend telemetry data warehouse architecture using data system design techniques
Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, and stakeholders to design and implement data models that transform data within our multihop data lakehouse architecture
Design and implement dashboards that visualize the quality of critical data products across multiple dimensions (e.g., freshness, volume, and accuracy)
Conduct root cause analysis of data quality issues using BI tools and ad hoc queries
Work in a cross-disciplinary team with a strong adherence to software craftsmanship that includes writing tested, well-documented, and efficient code
Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, data science, engineering, or related quantitative field
5+ years working in the data space as an analyst, engineer, scientist, or equivalent
2+ years building reports and dashboards using BI tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau, Looker, Qliksense, Metabase, etc.)
2+ years of industry experience working in a cloud environment (Azure preferred)
Hands-on experience implementing ELT practices at scale
Deep understanding of SQL and analytical data warehouses (Databricks preferred)
Familiarity with enterprise warehouse data modeling techniques (e.g., Kimball)
High degree of attention to software craftsmanship and professionalism
Comfort with git, shell, and command-line tools
Experience working with data workflow orchestration and integration tools (e.g., Airflow/Astro, Prefect, dbt cloud, etc.)
Familiarity with data quality tools and testing frameworks (e.g., Monte Carlo, Anomalo, etc.)
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Basic ability to write Python scripts
Understanding of data science concepts
Familiarity with developing near real-time event stream data processing pipelines (use of Spark/pySpark preferred)
Experience working with PII and regulated data
Engagement with modern data stack community (open source and commercial)
Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.
- The salary range for this role is $152,100.00 - 232,900.00 . The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
- Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
