About Found

The self-employed workforce is a rapidly growing, resilient, and colorful 60 million Americans. But self-employment comes with its own set of challenges: navigating taxes, accounting, bookkeeping, and business banking are just a few. That’s where we come in.

Found is building tools that give self-employed people the security and peace of mind that has historically only been possible at big corporations. We’re a business bank account that automates taxes and expense tracking because we believe small business owners should spend more time doing what they love and less time on their business finances.

We’re looking for kind, resourceful, and passionate people to join us in building the safety net for self-employment.

About this role:

Thanks for your interest in Found! Our engineering team is responsible for taking products from ideation to being used by tens of thousands of users every week. We’re responsible for everything from building the product, to technical operations (and everything in between such as getting better with outages, improving reliability, reducing tech debt…)

Found’s Risk Engineering team is responsible for minimizing risk losses and fraudulent use of Found, while protecting good user experience and maintaining operational efficiency. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer that is excited to build internal-facing products that directly drive business impact. The work we do directly ties to how Found makes and saves money, meaning that this role will provide a significant impact across the business. You'll be responsible for shaping our long-term technical vision and setting a high-quality bar.

Some recent team accomplishments include:

  • Reduced the riskiness for important instant (debit card base) and delayed money movement methods (ACH and Check Deposits)

  • Trained, developed, and deployed new machine-learning models to detect and block bad accounts during signup

  • Built up a card dispute program that closely connects to card network details and built automation and tooling for our risk operations teams to be able to optimize their workflows

  • Researched, built, and rolled out new online feature stores that now power most of the ML models across the company.

Day to day, you will:

  • Collaborate with product engineering, risk operations, or other cross-functional teams to build and ship products.

  • Have ownership across a large breadth of surfaces - frontend systems, batch and stream data processing pipelines, and backend services.

  • Build, maintain, and iterate on code quickly and safely.

  • Mentor other engineers and contribute to the direction of the team.

To thrive in this role, you have:

  • 5+ years of experience with backend and frontend frameworks and technologies.

  • 2+ years of experience with data systems or machine learning.

  • Advocated for and rolled out new technologies / open-source frameworks that empowered prior engineering organizations.

  • Experience with relational databases and working with large-scale databases.

  • A passion for writing clean, simple, and self-documenting code.

You may also have:

  • Experience or interest in financial services, accounting, and/or self-employment.

  • Experience as a manager, tech lead, or an architect.

  • Experience driving initiatives across an organization or a company.

  • Experience building fault-tolerant systems.

  • Experience working on a financial risk team.

  • Experience working with Data Scientists.

  • Comfortable running your own data analysis in SQL / R / Python.
