The Role
As a member of Fidelity Charitable’s Private Donor Group (PDG), the Senior Manager, Donor Effectiveness is an experienced professional in the nonprofit and philanthropy sectors with a range of skills and expertise that includes in-depth project management, research and writing, philanthropic grantmaking, and relationship management.
The Senior Manager will be a key contributor to Fidelity Charitable’s Donor Effectiveness strategy within Fidelity Charitable’s Private Donor Group. The Private Donor Group supports Fidelity Charitable DAF holders with at least $3 million in charitable assets through guidance and connections in philanthropy. The PDG overall team comprises 14 in-office and remote team members who support those individual donors with their giving. This role will be a part of PDG’s Donor Effectiveness function, reporting to the Vice President, Donor Effectiveness and working in close collaboration with the Philanthropic Researchers.
The Senior Manager will be responsible for developing tools, designing opportunities for engagement, and drafting research to educate and support PDG donors. They will also be responsible for a small portfolio of direct relationships with high-net-worth donors in PDG.
This role is highly strategic and requires delivery of results as both an autonomous, individual contributor and through influence in a highly matrixed, fast-paced organization. In addition, the role’s responsibilities include:
- Managing projects to stay on track, in close coordination and consultation with peers across the organization. This may include seeing writing, editing, and publication of thought pieces through from beginning to end, coordinating events for high-net-worth donors, designing and disseminating tools to support donors with their giving, and collaborating with Marketing, Service, and Program to launch new internal systems.
- Researching and drafting customized publications that scan the landscape, analyze social issues, and provide details on nonprofit organizations effectively addressing those issues. Vetting nonprofit organizations and providing quick answers in response to donors’ questions on social issues and how to support them. Shepherding written publications through internal review processes in a timely way.
- Educating Private Donor Group donors and the broader philanthropic sector about Fidelity Charitable offerings, innovations in philanthropy and DAFs, and opportunities to do effective giving, through drafting talking points, emails, and presentations.
- Analyzing data from across our Private Donor Group and making it actionable, offering learning sessions, connections to nonprofits, and opportunities to become part of communities that help donors to learn and give in impactful, fulfilling ways.
- Providing philanthropic guidance and support to a small portfolio of PDG donors with the goal of retaining and deepening relationships. This may include developing their philanthropic strategy, helping to engage their family in giving, working through complex grant recommendations, assisting them with navigating internal systems and procedures, or providing resources and tools to better navigate the philanthropic landscape.
- Representing Fidelity Charitable and the Private Donor Group in meetings with sectors partners and donors.
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- At least five years’ experience working with high-net-worth individuals and philanthropic grantmaking required.
- Technical understanding of Fidelity Charitable, DAFs, philanthropy networks and support organizations, and the philanthropic sector as a whole.
- Understanding of the nonprofit sector and ability to research and vet organizations.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively. Excellent writing skills.
- Flexibility to change and adaptability to new information, changing business priorities, input from others, and lessons learned.
- Facilitation and presentation skills with the ability to run meetings and follow-through on necessary next steps.
- Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Highly collegial, empathetic, enthusiastic, and equally comfortable leading a project and taking direction from colleagues.
- Expertise with PowerPoint, Salesforce, and project management softwares and systems.
How Your Work Impacts the Organization
The Senior Manager, Private Donor Group is integral to the team that provides philanthropic guidance to high net worth and ultra-high net worth Fidelity Charitable donors and their advisors. Many PDG donors and their advisors have critical relationships across the Fidelity Enterprise including Personal Wealth Management (PWM), Workplace Participant Services (WPS/WI), Stock Plan Services (SPS) and Fidelity Family Office Services (FFOS). As such, the Senior Manager must ensure a positive donor and advisor experience which strengthens the overall Fidelity relationship.
The Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund (“Fidelity Charitable”) is a public charity that sponsors the largest national donor-advised fund program. Since 1991, Fidelity Charitable has introduced tens of thousands of donors to the benefits — and increased charitable impact — of using a donor-advised fund to meet their philanthropic goals. Fidelity Charitable is governed by an independent Board of Trustees, which has hired Fidelity Investments as the service provider to the charity. Fidelity Investments provides all of the charitable organization’s employees and supports all of its functions: Program Development, Marketing, Service Delivery, Relationship Management, Finance, Technology, Risk and Compliance, and Fundraising.
The base salary range for this position is $80,000 – $135,000 per year.
Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.
Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
