Key Role Deliverables:

  • Establish and support implementation of lean manufacturing initiatives in alignment with the Lilly Manufacturing Standards of Operational Excellence (MSOEs).
  • Monitor/build a strong safety culture and holding others accountable while leading by example
  • Ensure consistency of operations across shifts through active engagement on the shop floor and through Gemba walks and Practice vs. Procedure evaluations.
  • Participates and/or lead cross functional teams in the development and implementation of strategies associated with the area for the following initiatives: Continuous Improvement, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes Effect Analysis (FMEA), etc.
  • Deliver necessary information and data about the new/ongoing CI projects
  • Facilitates problem-solving, shared learning and decision-making across plant functions
  • Responsible for schedule tracking, updating and reporting to all stakeholders for CI projects.
  • Establishes and implement project management processes and methodologies to ensure CI projects are delivered on time, adhere to high quality standards and meet team expectations.
  • Responsible for assembling Continuous Improvement (CI) project plans, teamwork assignments, directing and monitoring work efforts daily.
  • Escalates technical and timeline issues appropriately for CI projects.
  • Identifies issues that may delay project deliverables and recommends risk mitigation strategies, contingencies, and actions, when appropriate.
  • Serve as CCI Champion partnering with Business Area Leads to facilitate the chosen methodology for the given project (e.g., Lean Lighthouse, Kaizen Event)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Systems & Strategies – Design and Governance:

  • Lead the establishment of the CCI & OE systems (e.g., the Lean Production, Lean Management systems, and our digitally integrated visual management system) within assigned areas, including the components and their interactions.
  • Facilitate the deployment of system standards.
  • Facilitate and execute the process of systems governance and assessment – i.e., health, maturity, and performance – as well as the continuous improvement of the systems.
  • Capture benefits of CCI program and report to site & executive leadership teams
  • Contribute to the CCI&OE program strategy within the assigned area of responsibility (site/function)
  • Collaborate with central CCI&OE function to provide input into the CCI & OE systems design

Instructing and Training Others:

  • Facilitate CI & OE training to all levels of employees within assigned areas to support deployment and ongoing sustainability of CI&OE / Lean ways of working
  • Serve as technical coach for other CCI associates to build their Manufacturing operations and LEAN/ Six Sigma and program management skill set

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, scientific field or related field
  • 5+ years experience in Operations or Manufacturing Support in Pharmaceuticals

Additional Preferences:

  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Master Black Belt or similar level of Lean Coach / Practitioner Certification.
  • Experience with leading projects/improvement initiatives using a CI methodology / tool set including coaching, teaching and mentoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change while managing multiple, shifting priorities.
  • Previous experience in device assembly or packaging operations.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to train and mentor others
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a safe work environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Previous experience in operations or directly supporting a pharmaceutical manufacturing operation.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and concepts
  • Advanced computer skills are required (Data Analysis – run charts, pareto charts, pivot tables).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle and prioritize multiple requests.
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to train and mentor others.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to influence across organizational levels and to facilitate teaching and training of others
  • High level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence
  • Ability to work well in am ambiguous environment with changing priorities.
  • Previous experience with highly automated equipment, Maintenance, engineering
  • Previous equipment qualification and process validation experience.
  • Previous experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems and electronic batch release.
  • Previous experience with deviation and change management systems including Trackwise.
  • Previous experience with Device Assembly or Packaging.

Other Information:

  • The position is 100% onsite for the Lilly Research Triangle Park site.
  • Periodic travel may be required (<25% depending upon a variety of considerations).
