Overview

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has an opening for a Program Manager for Volunteer Services at the main Longwood campus. Reporting to the manager of volunteer services and patient programs, the Program Manager of Longwood Volunteer Services is responsible for the day-to-day program coordination of Longwood volunteer orientation, placement, training, and supervision. This includes daily monitoring of volunteer scheduling, real time problem solving, and relationship management with staff of programs where volunteers are placed. The Program Manager will work with the Manager of volunteer services to implement programs for the Longwood campus and provide patient and family assistance as needed. They will serve as supervisor to the Chestnut Hill Volunteer Program Coordinator. The Longwood Volunteer program serves as the home base and model for all volunteer programs across the DFCI enterprise.

Location: Longwood, with occasional travel to the Chestnut Hill location.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

• Programmatic coordination of on-site Longwood volunteer program which currently supervises a minimum of 100 volunteers onsite weekly.
• Provides staff coverage as needed for Volunteer Services physical spaces.
• Coordinates onboarding, interviewing, shift scheduling of Longwood volunteers & Junior Volunteer Program during summer months.
• Builds and maintains relationships with institute staff working with volunteers.
• Seeks appropriate information for all visitors and refers them to the appropriate person or department.
• Supports with manager, ongoing volunteer training sessions and workshops.
• Keeps accurate records of volunteer hours and roles.
• Assists in planning recognition events for volunteers throughout the year.
• Coordinates with Volunteers regarding the following: onsite check in’s quarterly, engagement and recognition & development of volunteer services training components and in service sessions.
• Serves as the lead for Volunteer Services Internship Program & evaluates volunteer programs and individual performance.
• Trains newly onboarded staff as necessary.
• Collaborates with other institute staff who are supervising volunteers in their programs.
• Support of the volunteers in the Longwood Blum Resource Center.
• Supervises the Chestnut Hill Volunteer Program Coordinator.
• Greeting and assisting patients, families, volunteers, and staff remotely and in person.
• Cleans, organizes and stocks physical spaces for volunteers.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Supervision of the Program Coordinator of VS Chestnut Hill
• Supervision of Workforce Development Students and Interns

Patient Contact:

• Daily in non-clinical areas when on site, remotely by Zoom when offsite

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting is required.
  • 3 years of experience in program administration (coordination) required, preferably in a health care or research environment.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Public Health, Human Services, Macro Social Work, Education or Communications field preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred

• Familiarity with resource programs for patients and families, program development, basic evaluation/assessment tools & general group dynamics/processes.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Works throughout the Institute and partner hospitals in a variety of settings with possible exposure to infectious disease through airborne transmission
