The Senior Manager- Supply Chain Network Capacity Planning will join the Network Planning team and be responsible for helping to advance our capabilities as we modernize and evolve our supply chain. The role will support key work around capacity planning and modeling, measuring how well the CVS supply chain uses available resources, space in facilities and efficient flow of goods within our buildings and across supported lines of business. The Senior Manager will oversee development and maintenance of models and reporting that account for current and future business trends, deliver business insights leveraged to drive strategy, improve execution, and increase the speed of action by stakeholder groups across distribution network planning, inventory management, transportation and operations. This role will be intimately involved with our modernization strategy, defining site requirements and measuring progress against critical metrics. Additionally, the leader selected for this role will be responsible for developing the capabilities of their team.

In this role, the ideal candidate will:

  • Lead a team responsible for defining and measuring capacity utilization and related opportunities that will support the development and execution of supply chain initiatives ranging from tactical execution to strategic planning
  • Advance our supply chain capabilities to support data driven network optimization efforts
  • Identify critical metrics that drive the business and the supporting measures necessary to achieve success.
  • Assess infrastructure and production capacity needs and gaps in current practices; engage with stakeholder teams and field leaders to maximize efficiency of available capacity
  • Lead work with sites and stakeholder teams to improve capacity and resource utilization, driving network standard best practices.
  • Assess capacity related risks, and lead development of mitigation efforts and countermeasures
  • Identify opportunities across supply chain functions and business units to include retail pharmacy, supplemental benefits (OTCHS), mail and specialty operations to drive action and support business case development
  • Develop deep understanding of capabilities, related measures and the required dashboards and reporting required to track overall network effectiveness as well as progress on strategic initiatives
  • 5+ years of supply chain experience
  • 5+ years of experience leading teams, including both direct or indirect reporting relationships
  • 3+ years of experience in engineering, transportation or DC operations
  • 3+ years of experience supporting warehousing, distribution or direct to consumer fulfilment operations
  • 3+ years of experience with WMS systems, DC configuration and related databases
  • 3+ years of experience Office software tools (such as Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • 3+ years of data analysis
  • 3+ years of experience in project management and continuous improvement
  • 2+ years of experience in process and facility infrastructure design and requirements specification
  • 2+ years leading analytics or modeling work
  • 2+ years of experience with Labor Standards and Labor Management Systems

Knowledge of:

  • Program and Project management
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Facility design principles and physical infrastructure storage/ pick media
  • Network optimization
  • Labor Management Systems, Engineered Standards, Time and motion studies, work design and standard work instruction development
  • WMS systems

Skill In:

  • Leadership and development of teams
  • Process design and requirements specification for development of systems
  • Facility and Network Design basics, to include proficiency in reading and interpreting building layouts, moderate skill in generating layouts using tools like AutoCAD
  • Modeling current and future capability,
  • Data mining and query writing, skilled in SQL required. Python as well, preferred
  • Data analysis and Report generation
  • Office software tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Ability To:

  • Translate data insights into action
  • Influence leaders at all levels from departments within buildings to supply chain senior leadership and corporate partners
  • Communicate and present information clearly and succinctly
  • Interpersonal skills and able to build effectively partnerships
  • Lead teams in a matrixed environment
  • Read, understand and recommend action based on P&L or other tracking data
  • Develop business cases and project plans

Regular and predictable attendance

Any additional tasks as directed by manager, including travel (estimated 30%)

  • 8+ years of experience with retail distribution and WMS
  • Direct experience in distribution and e-commerce omnichannel facilities
  • LSS Green Belt/Black Belt or PMP certification
  • Experience designing, implementing and configuring warehouse systems-physical infrastructure, systemic setup, labor management
  • Experience creating leadership materials and presenting to senior leaders, distilling complicated analyses down to packaged insights and recommended actions
  • Ability to conduct external market research (to see how other companies, and our competitors, are solving for their supply chain needs, and how / if we can leverage their learnings)
  • Some familiarity with WMS systems & data preferred
  • Can assist our partners in developing new ways to track and store large amounts of supply chain data that can be leveraged in future analyses
  • Be agile, operate in ambiguity, and willing to take on special projects alongside “normal” workstream ownership in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Preferred fields of study include Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Mathematics/ Statistics, Supply Chain
  • Master’s Degree preferred

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$82,940.00 - $182,549.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
