About the role

Chime is looking for a Software Engineer Intern to join our Design Systems team. By improving scalability in our design and development processes, the design systems team increases product development efficiency, improves collaboration, and saves Chime money on design and development costs. Beyond scalability, our work empowers product teams to craft visually delightful and cohesive experiences that resonate with our members. By providing the tools and components to build intuitive, accessible, and polished designs, we enable teams to focus on solving real problems for our members while creating moments of delight in a scalable way.

As a Software Engineer Intern on the Design Systems team, you’ll contribute to building and improving our internal design system. This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on a production-grade design system while collaborating with cross-functional teams of engineers, designers, and product managers. You’ll have the chance to work on impactful projects that directly enhance the user experience for millions of Chime members.

This role is structured as a 3 month engagement. The starting hourly rate offered for this role and target level of experience will begin at $34 and up to $49. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to

  • Contribute to the development of reusable UI components for web and mobile platforms; Assist in implementing and maintaining design tokens
  • Collaborate with designers to translate Figma designs into pixel-perfect, accessible components.
  • Support documentation efforts to ensure design system components and patterns are well-documented for developers and designers.
  • Participate in team meetings, standups, and brainstorming sessions to align on goals and share progress.

To thrive in this role, you

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.Basic knowledge of React. Bonus: React Native experience
  • Passion for design systems, UI/UX, and building reusable, scalable components.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, communication and collaborations skills
  • Bonus: Experience with design tools like Figma & Sketch
