The role of a Network Operations Manager (NOM) is crucial in ensuring the smooth functioning, reliability, and security of an organization’s network infrastructure.
· Oversee daily network operations to ensure that the network performs efficiently.
· Monitor network performance, availability, and health using specialized tools.
· Manage network traffic, troubleshoot issues, and resolve any network outages.
· Respond to network incidents and outages, ensuring timely resolution to minimize downtime.
· Investigate and diagnose network issues, coordinating with technical teams to implement fixes.
· Establish protocols for incident response and ensure adherence during network issues.
· Implement and maintain network security protocols to protect against cyber threats.
· Monitor for security breaches, vulnerabilities, and unauthorized access attempts.
· Coordinate with the security team to manage firewalls, VPNs, and other security measures.
· Manage and plan for network infrastructure upgrades to enhance performance and reliability.
· Schedule regular maintenance activities and ensure they are executed with minimal disruption.
· Oversee the installation, configuration, and deployment of network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
· Lead the network operations team, providing guidance, support, and training as needed.
· Coordinate with other IT teams, such as security, development, and support, to maintain network performance.
· Delegate tasks within the team, ensure accountability, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
· Analyze network traffic and usage patterns to optimize network performance.
· Identify opportunities to improve network speed, efficiency, and reliability.
· Propose solutions for network scalability to support business growth and evolving technical needs.
· Manage relationships with network service providers, vendors, and suppliers.
· Coordinate with third-party providers for network hardware, software, and services.
· Ensure timely renewal of service agreements and negotiate contracts as needed.
· Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, topology, and processes.
· Generate regular reports on network performance, incidents, and maintenance activities.
· Provide management with insights and updates on network-related matters.
· Plan and manage the budget for network operations, including costs for equipment, software, and personnel.
· Allocate resources effectively to maintain high levels of network performance and security.
· Optimize operational costs by identifying and implementing cost-effective solutions.
· Ensure that the network operations align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
· Develop and enforce network policies and procedures to maintain compliance.
· Stay updated on new networking technologies and compliance standards to keep the network infrastructure current.
