GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Gladyshev Laboratory in the Genetics Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School is seeking a highly motivated person to join our efforts in understanding the molecular basis of aging and lifespan control. The successful candidate will be involved in exciting projects developing novel computational and statistical methods for testing biological hypotheses, performing analysis of large-scale data, and interrogating omics, image and patient datasets.

We are looking for a hardworking, motivated and responsible candidate. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. The candidate needs to have a strong skillset in computer science, bioinformatics and/or statistics.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are searching for a talented, highly organized and responsible scientist with strong potential to work both independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will perform research and carry out multi-faceted projects:

1. Generating and testing hypotheses in the areas of aging, longevity, and rejuvenation.

2. In collaboration with PI, establishing new and modifying existing techniques.

3. Collaborating on large scale projects.

4. Performing quality control of omics datasets.

5. Statistical analysis of single cell and single nuclear datasets.

6. Using computational tools to identify novel mechanisms of aging and lifespan control.

7. Executing quality control protocols on generated and public datasets

8. Submission of data to databases.

9. Interrogating patient databases using natural language processing.

10. Data curation and organization

11. Calculating and analyze data using advanced statistical techniques.

12. Troubleshooting. Cloud computing. Storage systems.

13. Coordinating tests and procedures.

14. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

· Master’s degree in statistics, computer science, bioinformatics or related disciplines and prior experience are highly preferred.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

· Demonstrated skills in programming languages.

· Prior experience with big data preferred.

· Sound analytical and organizational skills.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Must be able to structure tasks and set priorities logically and effectively.

· Ability to identify potential problems and trouble-shoot solutions.

· Demonstrated ability to analyze data and present it.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Not applicable.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical research laboratory setting.
