ASML is seeking Materials Engineers to join our Wilton, Connecticut location in the Reticle Handler, Mechatronics and Defectivity (RHMD) department. Within ASML, the Development and Engineering (D&E) sector is responsible for the specification and design of ASML products. The RHMD department is responsible for creating the perfect environment within the vacuum reticle modules in cutting edge Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines. We take many approaches, such as designing the gas flow in vacuum, choosing the correct materials and designing cleanliness processes.
Role and Responsibilities
You will take the lead to specify, design, develop, realize, integrate and test (sub-)modules/tools, in cooperation with other disciplines and suppliers, within the limits of system specifications, costs and project planning, to ensure the timely realization of (sub-)modules as part of competitive, achievable and serviceable products.
As a Materials Engineer, you will:
- Have a strong background in one or more areas of interest to the RHMD Project:
- Materials science and engineering/nanotechnology background
- Tribology, wear resistance of coatings and materials
- Plasma physics, electrostatics and materials compatibility
- Small particle behavior in gas flows and high vacuum
- Chemistry of surfaces and vacuum grade cleanliness
- Communicate effectively with suppliers to proactively drive results and performance improvements
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability in the on time delivery of quality components from key suppliers
- Demonstrated ability to derive conclusions from analysis and to make practical recommendations
- Strong technical writing and communication skills, including the ability to present results based on strong statistical evidence to audiences of a wide range of technical abilities
- Take direction from ASML System Architects and Senior Engineering mentors who are leading the development effort of critical large capital equipment
- Exposure to multi-disciplinary projects (e.g. robotics, mechatronics, optical systems, etc.) preferred but not required
- Be an advocate on behalf of reducing particulate contamination in hardware designs
- Some travel (up to 15%) within the US and internationally can be expected
Education and Experience
To help us tackle the technical challenges we face, you will need experience working on high-tech products and with complex processes.
As a Material Engineer, you will need:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering or related degree with a focus on material behavior and 3+ years of experience

Other Information
- This position is located on-site in Wilton, Connecticut. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation
- A flexible workplace arrangement may be available to employees working in roles conducive to remote work (up to 2 days a week)
This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
