Job Description

What You’ll Do

We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated, and team-oriented Hardware Engineering Manager to drive the creation of industry-leading Cloud Networking Ethernet switches. Arista takes pride in designing and manufacturing the highest density and greatest bandwidth products in the market. As an Arista Hardware Engineering Manager, you will lead multiple cross-functional teams in the design and verification of an industry-leading portfolio of Networking Ethernet switches.

  • Provide technical guidance and directions to hardware engineers, to resolve complex Hardware bring-up and cross functional problems
  • Work with product management teams to translate high-level product direction into future system designs with detailed, executable steps for cross-functional teams.
  • Drive Vendor roadmaps of key components (ASICs, connectors, PCB vendors, etc.) to advance Arista’s Hardware designs, as well as align with internal product roadmaps
  • Communicate project status and changes to mitigate unexpected issues.
  • Hardware schematic entry, Layout supervision, board bring-up, and cross functional system debug when resource gaps exist
  • Participate in schematic and board design reviews
  • Assist in analyzing Signal Integrity and Power Integrity simulation and measurement results
  • Develop and communicate priorities across a portfolio of projects.
  • Drive the design of high-quality products with high first-pass yields at manufacturing.
  • Ensure the prototype manufacturing infrastructure and capacity meets product portfolio needs.
  • Act as the initial point of contact for customer escalations, and supervise resolution
  • Manage, mentor, and motivate a team of hardware engineers with a diverse range of experience levels: from new college grads to experienced veterans of the industry.
  • Identify, define, and implement new processes and tools that help improve productivity and efficiency within the Hardware team

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in networking hardware design, particularly in the Enterprise market: Access points, Access Layer POE Switches, and Aggregation layer Optics switches
  • Proven experience leading hardware engineering teams across multiple simultaneous projects. Prior technical management experience is a must
  • Proficient with high layer count printed circuit boards and high-speed design, with background experience or knowledge of key protocols such as: Ethernet, SMBus, SPI, PCIe, POE, WiFi, PTP, MDIO
  • Expertise in Designing For Manufacturability (DFM) and collaborating with Contract Manufacturers (CM), Original Design Manufacturers (ODM) and Joint Design Manufacturers (JDM)
  • Demonstrated success in taking products from concept through to production.
  • Strong communication skills and experience in guiding direct reports, working with other managers or other teams, and interfacing with executive leadership
  • Ability to translate high-level product direction into actionable steps.
  • Effective project management skills, including tracking execution and implementing corrective actions.
  • Experience with embedded x86/ARM system design, gigabit+ signaling, high-speed buses, and regulatory compliance.
  • Skilled in technical documentation, schematic design, CAD collaboration, and software engineering collaboration.
  • Familiarity with signal integrity and power integrity concepts and tools, such as: impedance, PDN’s, differential routing, insertion loss, S-parameters, TDR’s, VNA’s
  • Background experience with scripting, and general software development is a strong plus
  • This is an majority onsite role at our Santa Clara HQ, with minimal opportunities for remote work

Compensation Information

The new hire base pay for this role has a salary range of $152,000 to $211,000. Arista offers different pay ranges based on work location, so that we can offer consistent and competitive pay appropriate to the market. The actual base pay offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including skills, qualifications, relevant experience, and work location. The pay range provided reflects base pay only and in addition certain roles may also be eligible for discretionary Arista bonuses and equity. Employees in Sales roles are eligible to participate in Arista’s Sales Incentive Plan, which pays commissions calculated as a percentage of eligible sales. US-based employees are also entitled to benefits including medical, dental, vision, wellbeing, tax savings and income protection.
