Job Overview
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a focus on performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for Amazon Robotics, you will lead advanced computational analysis efforts, provide technical expertise in structural and thermal simulations, and support product design and optimization across multidisciplinary teams. Our robotics systems power the automation innovation across Amazon’s fulfillment network. You have extensive experience in finite element methods, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to guide junior engineers while ensuring the integrity and performance of complex systems.
Key job responsibilities
• As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate and optimize mechanical designs.
• You have demonstrated expertise on the FEA package ANSYS or NASTRAN and be able to perform a stress analysis for structural integrity, fatigue analysis for durability, along with thermal and dynamic analyses.
• You will collaborate closely with the design teams to ensure the structural integrity and performance of various components and systems.
• You will Interpret analysis results, provide actionable design recommendations, and collaborate with design, manufacturing, and testing teams.
• You will be responsible to lead root cause analysis of structural or material failures, applying FEA and experimental data correlation.
• You define and implement best practices for simulation workflows, including meshing, material modeling, and boundary conditions.
• You create detailed technical reports and presentations for stakeholders, including senior management and customers.
• You have a strong understanding of mechanical engineering design fundamentals and analysis concepts, and demonstrated ability to independently own and deliver on the program on time and with high quality.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
- 7+ years of experience in finite element analysis for mechanical systems, structures, or components.
- Proficiency in simulation tools like ANSYS, Abaqus, HyperMesh, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of mechanics of materials, structural dynamics, and heat transfer principles.
- Experience with material models (e.g., metals, composites, polymers) and nonlinear analysis.
- Familiarity with design codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ISO, MIL).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Customer-focused and able to prioritize work demands in a dynamic work environment with multiple projects, project owners and dedication to meeting deadlines
- Self-motivated and perpetually curious. Able to anticipate team needs, acquire new skills, improve processes, and mentor junior engineers
- Able to work collaboratively in a diverse team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s or Ph.D degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with optimization techniques and multi-physics simulations.
- Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for automating simulation workflows.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and constraints, such as additive manufacturing, casting, or machining.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
