Amazon is seeking a Project Engineer to support the Amazon Logistics North America (AMZL NA) Engineering team, part of Amazon’s Last Mile organization. The Last Mile team helps get customer packages from delivery stations to a customer’s doorstep.
We are looking for an individual who has experience creating scalable solutions to tough engineering problems. In this role, the Project Engineer will be responsible for designing, managing and executing the next generation of delivery station processes, equipment, and operations. This is a unique opportunity to own new innovative projects and mechanisms that will advance the intelligence of our last mile business.
Key job responsibilities
-Drive complex cross team programs at various stages of lifecycle.
-Create transparency and predictability with roadmaps, planning, and partner management
-Drive programs to deliver goals on time and exceeding our quality bar
-Lead initiatives and complex cross-functional projects or programs in ambiguous and complex problem spaces
-Participate in the full system development life cycle, working within broadly defined parameters, including test plan execution and solution quality needs
-Manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors
-Responsible to deep dive technical solutions that encompass advanced technology applications, conveyor hardware selection, material handling integration, and vendor commissioning content and expectations
-Work closely with vendors, suppliers and other teams to come up with innovative solutions
-Develop cross-functional knowledge of Operations and Engineering team systems, processes, procedures, and tools
-Define projects (scope, delivery, and budget), set objectives, analyze data, drive improvements to metrics, and influence resource allocation
-Develop and manage budget and contract documents including RFPs, change order controls, and purchase orders
-Support design development efforts for optimal solutions for the North America delivery network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, ergonomics, associate experience, operational considerations and site layout
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another STEM field
- 5+ years of experience as a project engineer, process engineer, project manager, manufacturing engineer, or related occupation
- 5+ years of experience directly managing and responsible for large material handling or automation projects
- Experience managing the lifecycle of cross-functional projects, implementing automated equipment and/or integrated systems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Operations, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related STEM field
- Design and/or implementation experience with integrated automation solutions, such as complex material handling systems, high-speed packaging lines, or manufacturing lines
- Operations Management/Distribution Center experience
- Experience in e-commerce customer fulfillment
- Certified OE Black Belt, Green Belt or Lean Sensei, Lean manufacturing efforts, transportation/logistics and/or fulfillment/distribution centers
- Experience in running SQL queries and data mining
- Knowledge in technical leadership for large-scale industrial engineering projects or programs
- Experience with automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems and high-speed manufacturing
- Experience with Microsoft Office products: Excel, Project and Outlook
